Main        Canon. Illario is presumably the last remaining Dellamorte heir following the death of his cousin, Lucanis Dellamorte. He has stayed by Caterina's side for the most part, subtly pressuring her to step down from First Talon - though she refuses each time. He is just as surprised as everyone else is when Rook returns with Lucanis in tow.• he is in fact surprised when they return with lucanis. zara had assured him that lucanis was 'taken care of' and had assumed him to be dead.• he is a master assassin and adept at disguising his true motives and feelings. despite lucanis being the favorite, he is also skilled in his craft and should not be 'suspicious' to most unless they have the skillset required to see through 'masks'.• romance with him is odd. he is noncommittal for the most part and is always seeking some form of gain. it will not be an easy path to get him to reveal his true feelings so openly. he is more than happy to 'fake' things as needed.• he does care for his family and his grief over lucanis was very much real. illario considered lucanis like a brother and was pained when he refused to commit to helping illario sway Catarina. even while betraying them, he could not bring himself to kill Catarina either.
Master Assassin       Side Verse. Pre-veilguard & betrayel era. Fits well with Inquisition & trespasser eras. he does not leave Antiva during the events of DA2. He is a Master assassin of the Antivan Crows and House Dellamorte - his skills involve seduction and infiltration. He's charming enough and is very perceptive of the atmosphere in order to shift things in his favor. Though he can kill, often times he succeeds in his tasks without drawing a dagger - he is also effective with poison & sabotage.

9:16 - 9:20 Dragon  Illario is the second son to Adelina and Nico Dellamorte, two former assassins that once belonged to House Dellamorte. His father Nico was Caterina’s son, the second oldest child among five, while his mother was a lower ranked assassin from another Cuchillo that served under House Dellamorte. Anna Dellamorte was his elder sister by seven years and a fledgling-in-training by the time of her death in 9:20 Dragon. In his youth he spent a lot of time with Anna, often cared for by her or one of the many servants that served House Dellamorte. When she was unavailable he also spent some time with his other cousins like Lucanis, though the other was hardly a year older than he was. He and Lucanis were playmates for the longest time, the youngest of the eight grandchildren of House Dellamorte. When he was only two years old, House Velardo declared war on House Dellamorte, vying for the First Talon seat House Dellamorte had held for several decades. Nico and Adelina Dellamorte were the first to die by House Velardo’s blade, forcing Anna and Illario’s care to be shifted elsewhere. Ilario was given to Lucanis’s parents while Anna was allowed more independence due to her age and level of training. They spent less time together as a result, but Lucanis filled that void left behind in Anna’s absence. Eventually the two were hidden by Caterina as more of House Dellamorte was culled, Illario’s other cousins, aunts, and uncles falling. In 9:20 Dragon, when Illario was four years old, Anna was killed by an assassin while venturing out of Treviso for the first time. It was during her trial, a contract she was given in order to prove herself as a fully capable Crow. Though he was only four years old at her death, Illario mourned her for several years after, comforted only by Lucanis’s presence during that time. In that same year House Velardo’s war against House Dellamorte finally ended, leaving the two boys as the only survivors alongside Caterina.Illario attended a private funeral orchestrated by Caterina where she allowed them a moment to grieve, only to inform them that she would take over their training from then on. It was one of the few times where Illario was afforded the space to cry, though Lucanis remained stoic during the entire ordeal. Caterina said nothing at the time, allowing both boys to display their emotions however they felt comfortable.  9:20 - 9:38 Dragon  Their training was grueling and harsh, a sharp contrast to the regime formerly undertaken by House Dellamorte Crows. In times past, while their Crows had all come out strong and skilled, their training had been a little gentler and less demanding. They could afford the highest caliber equipment and were destined to pass their trials no matter what. It was more political than anything else, the threat of death never as real as it was with House Dellamorte consisting of only three members. Now that the situation had changed, Caterina took it upon herself to ensure her living grandchildren would not suffer the same fate. By any means necessary.A majority of his childhood was consumed by training, the boy forced to endure bouts of starvation and brutal punishments. He had, on many occasions, found himself bleeding and bruised from the crack of Caterina’s cane against his body. It was only because Lucanis was by his side that he could endure it to a degree, learning to mask his own feelings and anger in the process. Unlike Lucanis, who repeatedly pushed the boundaries as much as possible, Illario taught himself to appease Caterina. He tried to desperately earn her favor by acquiescing to her demands and punishments even when it left him broken.During the rare moments when they were free and left to their own devices, he would tag along behind Lucanis when the other boy snuck out. They would scale the buildings in Treviso, staring at the stars and simply sneaking around. It was these moments of peace he appreciated the most, just appreciating Treviso for what it was without the blood and bruises. Of course, they were still fledglings, often getting caught during their little escapades. At one point they had both slipped off a roof, landing in nearby bushes. Caterina had been upset back then, though Lucanis had shouldered the blame for both while Illario said nothing. She had seen through the lies easily of course and punished them both often. He resented Caterina back then but opted to mask it entirely, preferring to attempt to simply tolerate the abuse thrown at them. Illario was a dedicated Crow despite it all, his desire to succeed her in the future overruling whatever dignity he might have defended. It would all be worth it in the end when Caterina chose him as her successor over Lucanis, the other boy hardly interested in the title. He would sacrifice damn near anything to secure his future.Illario and Lucanis both passed their trials at the same time, recognized as fully-fledged Crows in their pre-teens. They exclusively worked together on contracts at the beginning, building both skill and experience out in the real world. It also offered them protection from other Houses, Caterina careful not to allow anyone else the chance at completely culling House Dellamorte. Of course it did not stop the attempts, but Illario and Lucanis worked well together. They dispatched their targets and any adversaries that attempted to slit their throats, though Lucanis was better suited for a direct approach.Eventually they began to work on specific skill sets, Lucanis specifically assigned to act as their mage-killer. She did not ask anything of Illario, hardly affording him much attention beyond requesting he specialize as well. Illario chose to pursue seduction and trickery, working to develop the ability to navigate situations through his personality alone. Lying was something he had grown accustomed to over the years as a coping method, so he adapted it to his work fairly easily. He began focusing on ‘what he needed to be’ for certain situations, learning to read people’s body language and understand the nuances behind their words.  9:38 Dragon - 9:51 Dragon  Eventually, Lucanis and Illario began embarking on their own solo contracts rather than being forced to work together constantly. Though they complimented each other’s skill set it was important for them to grow as independent assassins. They both became Master Assassins rather quickly, the best at their particular specialties, though rumors began floating around. Lucanis was whispered to be Caterina’s favorite and her heir despite Illario’s efforts. It began to build up resentment within him as he continued to try and impress the First Talon, only to be overlooked each time.Illario began toying with the different ways he could force Caterina’s hand, loving his family but adamant that it was he who deserved the title of First Talon. It began to eat away at his mind, consuming his thoughts at times while he continued to work on contracts. When he and Lucanis took a contract together to kill Ambrose Forfex, he was still on the fence about what lengths he would go to in order to secure the future he so rightly deserved. After completing the contract and witnessing Lucanis’s ‘weaker’ side, they spoke at a bar. Though Lucanis did not desire the First Talon position, it became obvious the other man would do nothing else to assist Illario. So, he accepted that Lucanis had turned into an obstacle rather than a pillar to lean on, reluctantly acknowledging that he would have to be removed. It was not an easy decision to come to as he still loved the other like a brother, but his desire for power and acknowledgement was far greater. Illario began scheming in the background, eventually intercepting a few missives between Venatori that were searching for the famed ‘The Demon of Vyrantium;. Illario kept the information to himself, opting to instead secure an audience with Zara Renata to put his own plans in motion.Illario seduced the older Venatori, whispering promises of vengeance and blood in exchange for her assistance in removing Lucanis from the picture. It took a few months to gain her trust before she agreed to bargain with him, Illario providing Lucanis’s location in exchange for a small pin enriched with blood magic. He secured it beneath his vest, hiding it from view and allowing her some level of control. When Lucanis was finally captured by the blood mage, she assured him his cousin was killed.Despite his cousin's death by his own mechanisms, Illario grieved for him as well. It was similar to what he had felt when he lost Anna previously, more so than the death of his parents and other family members. Though he often wore masks to suit the situation's needs, he allowed it to fall for just one single moment during the wake for Lucanis. Eventually he forced himself to move on, instead resuming his work in convincing Caterina to step down. To his frustration, she refused to do so, and he was forced to once again begin plotting.  9:51 Dragon - 9:52 Dragon  By the time Solas’s ritual had freed the gods, Illario had remained dutifully by Caterina’s side, working with the Crows to fend off the Antaam invasion of Treviso. He remained in possession of the pin from Zara, continuing their little entanglement to ensure his hand in Lucanis’s ‘death’ remained a secret. It was a hard line to tread, for he was not fond of the Antaam’s presence nor their threat to what would eventually be his own power. The Venatori asked much of him and he provided it readily, sneaking around as needed and maintaining a mask at all times while in Treviso. When Caterina informed them of Lucanis’s survival, his anger was uncontrollable, though he smoothly redirected it rather than allowing it to blossom fully. Instead of focusing on Lucanis somehow remaining alive, he displayed anger over her secrecy, playing into the worried and grieving cousin role once again. By that time he had arranged for Caterina’s capture, allowing it to play out as needed while Rook and the others went to secure Lucanis. Though he had considered it for a moment, Illario chose not to have Caterina killed, preferring to keep some remnant of his family alive. While he was angry with Caterina for refusing to see his potential, he could not bring himself to kill another of his family, even with Lucanis now alive. If anything he saw it was a stroke of good fortune, an opportunity to secure his place as First Talon without having to kill either of the remaining Dellamortes. However he gambled too riskily, tried to take more than he could hold, and it would eventually all crumble to pieces with him on his knees before the Antivan Crows.

Additional Notes

Blood Magic    Illario is not a mage nor does he have any dormant talent in the craft. When he invokes blood magic its through the use of a small pin gifted to him by Zara Renata. It's a small artifact that allows him to store blood inside in order to perform minor incantations such as subduing a demon or one other weak-minded individual for a brief time. It's not the same as a mage using blood magic nor is it as powerful. A strong minded individual can resist the blood magic fairly easily as well as another mage.

Main        Canon. Fenris is an escaped slave that has been pursued to Kirkwall by slave hunters seeking to return him to Danarius. He initially contracts Hawke's aid through a third party, eventually meeting up with them personally before clearing out the estate. After doing so, he decides to remain in Kirkwall temporarily inside Danarius's old estate. Due the to danger of an 'elf' living in Hightown, he doesn't leave very often.• Initially very wary of mages, especially if Hawke is one, but is willing to tolerate and accept them as they have proven themselves by defending him. He is often mistrustful and cautious at the start but can just as easily change his mind.• He is more hostile of Anders at the beginning due to not agreeing with the other man's "extremity" in regards to mages. He does not, however, agree with the harsher treatment of mages. Fenris leans towards monitoring and some control but not to the extremes as Anders describes. He also does not report mages as long as they don't prove to be a danger.• Fenris grows more sympathetic towards the mage's cause over the course of the game, but is unable to reconcile with the idea that blowing up the Chantry was necessary. That for him is crossing the line. He does believe Anders to be dangerous.• Fenris believes in the Circles as they should be, not the way they are run with abuse & neglect.
Inquisition        Canon. Fenris, after leaving Kirkwall and his companions, spends many years traveling along the border between the North and South. All of his efforts are focused on taking down dangerous Magisters, Venatori, and slavers. He is known as the Blue Wraith for his lyrium markings and has a hefty bounty on his head. He may be temporarily recruited by the Inquisition.• Can be recruited after Haven's fall. He will venture to Inquisition and offer his assistance in exchange for the protection of a larger group of slaves he had freed that had no home to return to. If the Inquisitor refuses, he will not remain.• Acquires Reth, a Mabari puppy, after spending some time in Skyhold. He trains Reth throughout his brief stay within Skyhold's walls.• Leaves with Hawke ( or by himself) following Adamant Fortress. If Hawke is left in the fade, Fenris will lash out at the Inquisitor before leaving permanently. If Hawke is not left in the fade, the two will leave peacefully but Fenris will offer a boon of some kind. He will return to fighting slavers once more along the border.  Veilguard        Canon. As of Veilguard, he is currently working with the Shadow Dragons. Though he's not as keen on working with Magisters, he understands the dire situation and is capable of cooperating as needed. Their views on slavery have also allowed him to remain more open-minded towards their eventual rise to power, though he will not assist himself directly. His main focus, as usual, remains on hunting slavers and the Venatori.

PRE-KIRKWALL  In his youth, he was known as Leto. As an elf born into slavery, he had no rights and served under a Tevinter Magister named Danarius. Danarius was a cruel master who treated his slaves like nothing more than property, resulting in a very harsh upbringing for Leto and his sister. Their Mother cared for them to the best of her abilities but as a slave herself they had little. Leto hated Danarius and mages by extension, but when the opportunity came to free his family he took it.Danaris offered a chance to become his bodyguard along with a boon as a reward to all of the slaves he owned. Many of them competed for the prize, but eventually Leto was chosen as the winner. Years of labor had allowed Leto to build up some bulk, but when it came down to it his determination and ferocity is what won him the main prize. In exchange, Leto requested that his mother and sister be freed from slavery. Danaris granted his request and allowed the two elves to walk free.Over the years Danaris had been experimenting with magic and lyrium, eventually coming to possess an old treatise that described a unique procedure. It would allow one to bind lyrium into markings etched into a person’s skin, though the details were vague. Due to this, it took the magister many years before he could come to the point of using a living subject for his experiments. Eventually, he decided to use it on a slave chosen to be his bodyguard - Leto.Leto was placed in the ritual sarcophagus for the experiment, inscribing lyrium-infused markings into his skin. It was an incredibly painful procedure though, and to the surprise of Danaris he found that Leto had lost all of his memories as a result. In exchange, he gained the ability to phase through solid objects. Though unexpected, the loss of Leto’s memories did not bother the magister and he renamed him Fenris - his “little wolf”.Fenris would serve as Danaris’s faithful bodyguard for some time, becoming more familiar with his newfound abilities over time. He also discovered that the markings were incredibly sensitive, often uncomfortable when touched. As a result, he grew to dislike physical contact with others, even if he knew them. The pain isn’t overbearing though - he can tolerate it when he wants to. Growing to become more standoffish over time, his frustrations would eventually lead to him attempting to escape Danaris. His first attempt at escape would lead him into an encounter with a group known as the Fog Warriors - freedom fighters from Seheron that wished to separate from both the Qunari and Imperium. Fenris spent several months with the group, learning about the Qun and growing to appreciate it to an extent. He admired their strength and freedom, feeling as though he was a part of something great for the first time in a long while. When Danaris eventually came to collect him, the Fog Warriors defended Fenris. After being injured, Danaris demanded Fenris kill them all and the elf complied. It is something he regrets to this day and eventually led to him fleeing from Danaris once again, taking advantage of the Magister’s weakened state.Fenris would use his newfound freedom not to simply escape but to take revenge on his former master for his treatment. He would slaughter all of Danaris’s heirs while dodging the magister’s attempts to recapture him. This went on for years, the elf stopping in a city every so often, only to eventually be betrayed by those around him. Hunters stalked his every move in an attempt to drag Fenris back to Danaris, only to be thwarted by Fenris each time. He had hoped to maybe blend in with the other free elves, but his markings made it impossible. Too many people were also just as willing to sell him out as well, Danaris offering an incredible amount of gold for his capture.  KIRKWALL  Act I ( 9:31 Dragon)
Eventually this would all lead him to Kirkwall, using Anso to hire a group of mercenaries to lead the hunters chasing him into a trap. Unbeknownst to him, these mercenaries would end up being Hawke and their group. Fenris offers the gold originally promised for the initial request for a different one - to help him clear the mansion of Danaris and his hunters. Unfortunately only Danaris’s hunters would be there, Fenris allowing Hawke and their group to claim the spoils. Fenris opts to join the group for a time, staying in Danaris’s mansion on the off chance the Magister eventually returns.
He also accompanies Hawke as needed, openly distrustful if not hostile towards mages. Fenris is able to grow to respect some, like Bethany or a Mage Hawke, but otherwise he will at best tolerate them. Of all the companions, Fenris does not like Merril or Anders due to their mage status among other things. Everyone else he grows to be somewhat fond of for various reasons.Act II (9:34 Dragon)After years with the group, when Fenris travels outside of Kirkwall with Hawke their group is attacked by Tevinter slavers attempting to capture Fenris. Once they defeat them, they learn one of Danaris’s apprentices - Hadriana - is near. After locating their hideout, they free a slave by the name of Orana before confronting Hadriana. Fenris kills her regardless of Hawke’s opinion on the matter, but not before she reveals key information about his past - that he has a sister. Unfortunately, the knowledge of his sister was limited and did not allow him to track her down at the time.Fenris would eventually reveal his extensive knowledge of the Qun, using what he knows to not only impress the Arishok but to arrange a duel between him and Hawke. As impressive as his familiarity with the Qun is, Fenris is not a follower of it.Act III ( 9:37 Dragon )Years later, Fenris is finally able to discover the whereabouts of his sister and arrange a meeting. They meet up with Varania only to discover it's a trap - Danaris himself appears. Hawke chooses to defend Fenris against the magster, leading to his death. Fenris lashes out at Varania and attempts to kill her, only to be convinced to back down by Hawke. He reluctantly allows her to live despite her betrayal but hardly considers them family at this point. Fenris also learns of his real name during their encounter, but chooses to continue on as Fenris. After Anders blows up the chantry, Fenris advocates for his death but always chooses to join Hawke regardless of what side he takes. Despite his decision to support Hawke, he will never advocate for the mages and will continue to see them as dangerous. By this point in time, Fenris has opted to follow the Chantry after guidance from Sebastian and fully supports the idea of Circles. However, due to his experience as a slave, Fenris is willing to believe that corruption has occurred in some circles and somewhat understands why the mages would eventually rebel.Following the Kirkwall Incident, Fenris will leave in order to continue his campaign against the Tevinter slavers. Now that Danaris is finally dead, he's able to operate more freely without the need of assistance. Fenris continues to free elven slaves from their masters but does not really mingle with any of the dalish as he has no interest in them.In the case of a romanced Fenris, he will stay with his partner but will still want to continue his work with freeing slaves.  INQUISITION AND VEILGUARD  9:40 - 9:41 Dragon (Three - Four years after the Kirkwall Incident)Fenris is eventually separated from the Kirkwall group for various reasons, operating under the nickname “The Blue Wraith” while fighting Tevinter slavers across the region. Despite whatever their reason may be, Fenris feels somewhat bitter about being ‘left behind’ by his friends for the most part. Instead of dwelling on it, he turns his anger towards the slavers he’s vowed to kill. Alongside him, a Dalish elf by the name of Shirallas accompanies him with freeing slaves all across Northern Thedas. The two hold similar ideologies, but Shirallas is willing to risk it all for power he presumes will help them further. Fenris dismisses the idea entirely, knowing what one had to sacrifice for power on that scale.9:44 - 9:45 DragonAt this point in his life he is alone once more, Shirallas having parted ways in order to chase the power promised by the Magister they were once fighting against. Due to his association with the elf he is presumed to be involved in the disappearance of Magister Alerio Invidus. The group following him initially attack him, only broken up by her companion Vaea so they can ask him questions. It turns out their goals somewhat align, but Fenris rejects their help, disillusioned towards the idea of a team or partners.Despite him dismissing them, they follow anyway as he tracks down Magister Nenealeus and his associates. After several encounters, Fenris eventually concedes and allows their group to join him as he continues on towards Castellum Tenebris. Castellum Tenebris is the former fortress of Danaris, a place he was intimately familiar with. They eventually encounter Shirallas, now infused with red lyrium like Fenris was years ago. The group manages to defeat him, but the encounter is not without cost - one of their group is killed in battle. Despite his previous reservations about partners, Fenris offers to join the group and head down South with them.9:52 - 9:53 Dragon (Veilguard)Fenris once again returns to operating on his own, but this time keeps in constant contact with his former companions across Thedas. His operations have changed slightly - he’s now targeting Venatori as well. He continues working to free slaves but with the newfound danger he finds himself, in he’s forced to also deal with the dangerous Gods threatening Thedas as a whole. Unfortunately, he’s no longer able to operate on his own freely due to the newfound danger from the blight and old gods.He can be found and recruited in Dock Town during a fight with the Venatori trying to capture him. Fenris has worked with the Shadow Dragons on occasion as a last resort but is not entirely friendly with them due to their affiliation with Magisters. Their relationship has many boundaries and while Fenris is overlooking his concerns with Tevinter's Magisterium for now, they still remain at the back of his mind.

Main        Canon. Cullen Rutherford is the Commander of the Inquisitions military forces and an advisor to the Inquisitor. As an ex-templar, he holds some modicum of wariness towards mages but not in a hostile manner - he simply believes their magic may pose a danger to themselves along with those around them. He is also struggling with his lyrium addiction, attempting to wean himself off it over the course of Inquisition.• he is sympathetic to both templars and mages. he does believe in the necessity of Circles, but not the abuse. he understands why the mages rebelled as well as why the templars did.• his lyrium addiction causes him to suffer withdrawals. his mood and energy levels are affected. he also gets a small tremor when its at its worst.
Origins        Canon. Cullen Rutherford is the newest templar recruit at Kinloch tower. He's nervous but eager to perform his duties and adamant about protecting the mages as well as others. Since its his first time being actively deployed following training, he tends to be nervous.Following the abomination situation, Cullen is traumatized and near hysterical. He fully and wholeheartedly believes that all the mages in Kinloch tower should be killed for what occurred. He sees them all as abominations and is unwillingly to accept an alternative - but stands down as demanded.
Kirkwall        Canon. Following the events of Kinloch and attempts to rehabilitate Cullen, he was eventually sent to Kirkwall to serve under Meredith. Seeing the potential in him, she became personally invested in his wellbeing and eventually he was raised to the rank of Knight Commander. Though he has calmed down a little after years of work, he is still mistrustful of mages and regards them as a danger. However, over the course of the Acts he begins to grow suspicious of Meredith's behavior. Though he will not side with the mages following the Chantry's explosion, he does recognize that Meredith is also in the wrong.
Veilguard        Canon. Cullen once again takes up arms against the threat plaguing the South. As of Veilguard, he had established a refuge for ex-templars struggling with their lyrium withdrawals. When demons and darkspawn begin invading Thedas once more, his entire refuge takes up arms and begins assisting throughout Thedas wherever they can. He is also assisted by a small herd of Mabari he had personally trained.

ORIGINS  9:11 - 9:24 DragonCullen Stanton Rutherford was born in Honnleath, a village in Ferelden that was destroyed during the Fifth Blight. He’s the second eldest of four children, with Mia as the eldest, Branson after him, and Rosalie was the youngest. Much of his time was spent playing with his siblings while their parents worked, Mia often left in charge to watch over her younger siblings. Cullen tended to help as well, deeply fond of his siblings and eager to watch over them. Sometimes he would take some time for himself though, often visiting a nearby lake to either fish or skip some rocks. Other times he would visit the local Chantry, watching the templars as they went through basic drills. At the age of eight years old, Cullen had finally decided that he wished to join the Templars when he was older. As he grew older and a little more independent, Cullen would visit the local Chantry and beg the Templars to train him. Even a few simple stances were enough for the young boy. Luckily for him, they were willing to humor him by passing on a few simple stances and correcting how he held his wooden sword. Despite the casualness of it, Cullen took it seriously and even began training back at home in between chores. Mia became his biggest supporter, encouraging Branson and Rosalie to help him train. When Cullen was ten years old, he was given his first waster by the Chantry’s Templars, impressed by how quickly his skills had grown with such little guidance. It was crafted with wood from the nearby forests, a perfectly built training sword. The Chantry’s symbol was carved into the hilt and the point dulled so he couldn’t hurt himself. Cullen was absolutely delighted by the gift, especially when Mia also gave him a sheath to carry it around. With all of the support he received, Cullen’s determination only grew, his talent eventually noticed when he was thirteen years old.9:24 - 9:31At the age of thirteen, Cullen’s abilities were finally acknowledged when a visiting Knight-Captain caught sight of him practicing his forms. Impressed with his ability, Cullen was offered a chance for formal training, an opportunity his parents easily agreed with. Templars were considered an honorable profession in Ferelden, and Cullen’s strong desire did not go unnoticed. The night before he was set to leave, Cullen met with his siblings by the lake for a proper goodbye.Branson gifted him a lucky coin as a farewell gift, something he still keeps with him to this day. Rosalie gave him the biggest hug she could muster, and Mia promised to stay in touch. Upon returning to their family home, he almost bid farewell to his parents and promised to return whenever he was able to. Before the crack of dawn, Cullen left with the Knight-Commander, taken to a more secluded Chantry to avoid any unnecessary distractions.Despite showing early promise, Cullen was no prodigy - he was the product of hard work. He was not the youngest nor did he have the benefit of proper training, but he endeavored to catch up all the same. Cullen was in fact further behind than the rest of his peers, many of whom either came from noble families or had been training for far longer with proper teachers. Yet he managed to catch up with them in the end, spending long hours at night perfecting his forms and swordsmanship. He improved to the point where he matched the rest of his peers, taking his vows and lyrium at the age of eighteen.Cullen was assigned to Kinloch Hold, the Circle tower that overlooked Lake Calenhad. As a newly recruited Templar, he was assigned to watch over the mages undergoing their Harrowing. It was his responsibility to kill any mages that succumbed to the demons, effectively failing their harrowing. What happened when a mage failed was a closely guarded secret, the mages only aware of their brethren vanishing afterwards. Cullen took his station very seriously, dedicated to the idea of protecting the mages from demons as well as from those who became abominations. As the Fifth Blight overtakes Ferelden Uldred, a Senior Enchanter of the Ferelden Circle of Magi, stages a coup at Kinloch Hold. The tower becomes overrun by abominations and blood mages and Cullen is trapped on the fourth floor by Uldred. He is tortured by demons and blood mages alike, driving him to his breaking point. While the blood mages are unable to tear any useful information from him, Cullen’s will is in tatters. Whatever sympathy and care he had for the mages is completely gone, the Templar convinced that every mage in the chambers must die.Whatever the Hero decides, Cullen is forced to accept it as Knight-Commander Greagoir will make the final decision with First Enchanter Irving’s input considered as well. Regardless of what happens, Cullen is deeply traumatized by the incident, eventually sent off to recover at the Chantry in Greenfell. It is there he is finally able to get in contact with Mia again, only to discover that his parents and village had been destroyed by the Blight. All of this combined deeply affects Cullen and he grows to district mages entirely. He no longer sees them as people and regards them warily, even without cause.  KIRKWALL  9:31 - 9:37 DragonEventually, Cullen is shipped off to Kirkwall under Knight-Commander Meredith’s command. He is known to be somewhat cold to the mages, never quite crossing the line but prejudiced all the same. The effects of his trauma still remain years later, something Knight-Commander Meredith notice’s and takes advantage of. As someone who had also experienced incredible pain due to the dangers of magic, she is able to empathize with Cullen’s experience and draw him to her side. Cullen falls in line with her rather easily, eventually promoted to her second in command as the Knight-Captain of Kirkwall.Cullen is often deeply concerned for the safety of his fellow Templars to the point where he’s willing to ask for outside help to investigate their disappearances. At the same time though he is still very reactive to anyone potentially compromised, fully willing to strip Keran of his commission at the mere chance. During his time in Kirkwall his views slowly change for the worse in regards to mages, no longer seeing them as people but rather ticking time bombs. With the people of Kirkwall often helping apostates as well due to the rumors about Meredith, he sees it as necessary to take more extreme measures in some cases. However, Cullen does have a boundary he will not cross. While he may not see mages as people, he is not entirely eager about overdoing in terms of their treatment. Though he will not openly condemn any of the more extreme plans like a mass tranquil plan, he does not support it either. At most he considers it an option that could be used, but would rather it only happen if the mages push them too far.Eventually, Meredith crosses into a level of extremism that Cullen is hesitant to follow. He expresses his concerns about her methods and treatment of mages, but does follow her into battle after Anders blows up the Chantry. Cullen disagrees with Meredith about the right of annulment, acknowledging that the situation here is not as serious as the one in Ferelden. Even with everything that had happened there, they did manage to save some mages. When Meredith decides to arrest Hawke, Cullen fully breaks from Meredith, siding with the Champion and fighting against her.Following the events of Kirkwall, Cullen rallies the remaining Templars to reestablish order in the city.  INQUISITION  Cullen was recruited by Cassandra Pentaghast in order to serve as the Commander of the Inquisition. He was in charge of the military branch of the Inquisition and was also an advisor to the Inquisitor. Cullen believes wholeheartedly in the ability of the Inquisition to combat not only the breach but to quell the current mage-templar rebellion that threatens to tear apart Thedas as well.By this point in his life, while he does still reserve some caution for mages, he is also self-conscious of the harm he was caused in the past. He is open about his harsher and less deserving views from the past, but still does see the necessity of the Circles. Cullen at this point believes that while the mages still need some form of protection, they don't need to be treated as harshly as the Chantry did. He is also considerate to the Templars though as well given his former affiliation. He does not agree with conscripting the mages due to the potential danger of pouring too much magic into the breach. It has nothing to do with his personal views of mages and more so practical on his part - he believes the Templars can suppress the magic instead. Whatever is decided he agrees to even if it is mages chosen.Cullen continues working with the military throughout Inquisition, but struggles with his lyrium addiction. He has been trying to quit ever since leaving the Order, but it affects both his mood and energy levels. At some point prior to the Inquisition's official formation, he struck a deal with Cassandra to observe and remove him from duty should his addiction interfere. He is exceptionally self-conscious about his struggles but trusts in the Inquisitor to help him make a decision.Following the events of Inquisition, Cullen retires officially and builds a refuge from former templars struggling with addition themselves. He also adopts a few Mabari at some point that help him with caring for the ex-templars. Much of his life is devoted to helping them recover in the same way he had instead of wasting away on the streets like they would before.  VEILGUARD  As of Veilguard, Cullen has once again taken up arms against the horrors assaulting the South while the Veilguard works up north. He, along with the other ex-templars and Mabari, are working to evacuate and rescue people from the blight.

Shephard of Bones        Main/Companion. Eleanor is famed member of the Mortalitasi & Mourn Watch notorious for her aversion towards 'flesh'. Her unique precision and potency of her magic is enough of an interest to the Veilguard, specifically with her current project. She's currently working on a set of moveable bones, allowing them to act as a soft of shield for the wielder. She offers her services in exchange for specific bones for her project.

9:24 dragon - 9:34 Dragon  In her youth, Eleanor was formerly from Antiva, recruited into the Crows at a very young age. She was a nobody from birth without a cent to her name, often taking odd jobs to sustain herself prior to being recruited. So when a more permanent job was offered to her she took it without hesitation, unaware of the costs involved until it was far too late to back out. Without any noble standing, she was house-less at first, supplying herself with gear and food in order to survive her training. Her Heir in particular was merciless, squeezing the most she could out of each fledgling under her care. Eventually she was recruited into House De Riva under the previous Talon before Viago alongside several other newer fledglings, her will to survive just enough to catch the attention of the previous Talon.Even in House De Riva her training was harsh and painful, her nights often spent recovering from the injuries she sustained. It was normal for a Crow but she hated it anyways, her eyes often locked onto the windows for hours on end. The entire experience made her feel disgusted and uncomfortable and she despised touching anything the House gave her. Every dagger or piece of uniform had to be meticulously scrubbed clean before she would wear it, her mind only thinking of all the ‘dirty’ hands that had touched it prior to reaching her. Though it took her longer to prepare and she was scolded for it on a daily basis, Eleanor persevered anyway, ensuring everything was ‘clean’ in her eyes. Eventually she grew disgusted with anything that wasn’t cleaned first no matter where it came from. When she was ten years old, Eleanor had been recognized as a capable enough fledgling in her own right and was allowed to take her trial. Yet, when she was finally given enough free rein in order to complete it, she vanished. Using what little coin she had managed to save up during her training, she took off the moment she was given the chance, slipping in between the crowds before her handler could catch her. Eleanor ran and ran until her feet eventually gave out, exhaustion claiming her as she slid away into an alleyway. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, her handler descending upon her the moment she fell to the ground. In a fit of desperation, Eleanor roughly pulled from across the veil, tapping into the magic that had yet to awaken. Her handler was scorched to the very bone, a massive blaze overtaking him until he was finally ‘cleansed’ of the world's filth. Right down to his very bones, his remains falling into a pile of ashes at her feet. Eleanor plucked his skull from the ground, stowing it away to keep as a trophy.Unfortunately, in her struggle with her handler, her eye had been 'poisoned' by one of the infamous de Riva concoctions, slowly robbing her of her sight. Eleanor tried many remedies during her travels, but after about a week she lost sight entirely in her right eye. She considers it another 'brand' of the Crows, much like the tattoo on the back of her neck.  9:34 Dragon - 9:53 Dragon  Eleanor didn’t look back, picking herself back on shaky feet and continuing her escape through the city of crows. She ran until she finally found safe passage out of Antiva, using all of her coin to take her to Nevarra. It was several weeks before she arrived, her remaining coin lost after spending it on sustaining herself. The young, untrained mage spent a few weeks wandering around, resorting to old habits in order to keep herself alive until she was taken in by the Mournwatch. Though she was punished for her acts of thievery, she was allowed to work off her meager debt and eventually accepted entirely. Unlike with the Crows, Eleanor was much happier here, changing her name to suit her new identity. It was a lord, arduous process to begin learning to wield her magic safely, her initial awakening entirely destructive and inefficient. Eleanor’s disdain for the ‘unclean’ remained even in the mournwatch, her hands often covered with gloves for her own comfort. Her control improved drastically over time with both proper instruction and an improved mental state, the girl finally satisfied with what life had given her. She became an apprentice to one of the Lich’s of the Necropolis, considering pursuing lichdom herself but not entirely committed to the idea. Still, she worked hard, taking to her studies easily and eventually ascending in the ranks of both the Mourn Watch and eventually the Mortalitasi.Eleanor is considered unique in that she will not touch anything she considers dirty, the undead she raises exclusively skeletons as opposed to zombies. All of them are forced to cleanse themselves before she will make use of them and she’s known to be slower with her magic as a result as well. However, her precision is unmatched, her ability to strip the flesh from bone legendary among the Mortalitasi. Her unique ways to wield magic and her very specific tastes have caused her to earn the nickname “Shepherd of bones”.
A few Crows have attempted to claim her due to a contract on her head, but none have ever succeeded. She's added their bones to her collection but has used none.

Companion Info

1. Eleanor's companion quest revolves around the completion of her project, the medium-sized golem she constructs and deconstructs in the middle of fights. He does not speak nor has she ever given him a name - she only refers to him as 'Crow'. The problem she faces is that he is unable - or unwilling - to respond to anything that doesn't involve combat. During her latest attempt she is once again met with silence, resolving to return to the Necropolis to meeting with her caretaker - Erich.• Erich is a lich of the Necropolis - one of the newest ones. He holds more progressive views than his fellow liches and was secretly in support of Rook's actions during the War of Banners. He is quite delighted when Eleanor brings Rook along with her, greeting them both outside of his glamour.• As for her concerns, he reminds her of the disservice she is doing towards the spirit within - revealing it was not a fully consensual bond. That is hasn't been twisted is a surprise, but he once again insists she let go of the vengeance that consumes her. Eleanor, in her frustration, leaves without acknowledging his advice.• Erich reveals that he has not stopped her because it isn't his place to. That even though he is here to assist, its not his place to rob the living of their experiences. Learning is one of those things - she must learn and make the choice on her own.2. Eleanor returns to the Lighthouse where she ruminates on the problem - and her project - even more. She is stubborn and refuses once again to release her hold on the spirit contained within the golem, revealing the bones belong to her former crow handler whole stole her eyesight. She had burned him alive when he tried to drag her back, leaving only his bones. In a moment of revenge, she stole the bones before escaping Antiva and eventually ending up in Nevarra.3. Eventually, Eleanor receives a missive from a woman in Antiva. She reluctantly ventures out to discover it is the widow of the crow handler she killed. The woman begs not for forgiveness but for mercy, requesting the bones be returned so they might put the man to rest. Eleaboe refuses initially, but the golem reconstructs itself suddenly, speaking finally. It urges Eleanor to return what had been stolen, to embrace forgiveness as many mortals had done prior. It reveals itself to be a spirit of mercy, seeking out Eleanor when she had first constructed the golem out of spite. She isn't sure what to do, conflicted after all she had seen of Treviso and its people. Eleanor speaks to rook directly for guidance.Relinquish the bones. Eleanor gives up her project, allowing her work to remain unfinished. She returns the bones to the widow, who thanks her. She retreats back to the Lighthouse silently, speaking to Rook again after only a few days. She reveals the spirit has been following her lately, indicating it's desire to possess another construct for her in the future.Keep the bones. Eleanor refuses, stating once again that mercy is not a right but a luxury. The golem accepts what is but never speaks again, returning to it's quiet but combat-acceptable state.

9:10 Dragon - 9:29 Dragon  In the House of Crows, nobody is more respected and more hated than that of the contract writers. Their pens steal away the livelihoods of many, burying various loopholes and tricks under layers of false promises and elegant text. They are responsible for the individual contracts of each new recruit conscripted from the outside, from slave children to orphans. As such, their identities are kept relatively secret, their pen name acting as a substitute. Nobody knows which of their fellow Crows is under the mask. Ignacio's pen name is Buitre - Vulture.Ignacio is the son of an elven slave from House Valisti and a Merchant Prince. The shame of such a union cause the child to be cast out from the House, instead taken away to be trained in a different way to ensure he could never be traced back to them. Unlike many Crows, he was raised and trained at Velabanchel to ensure he would hold no ties to any individual House. All of the Crows writers are trained there as they do not serve one House but all Houses. He was raised and trained as any Crow might be - under intense pain and horrifying conditions. As he was considered House-less he was not afforded the normal luxuries he might have kept if he stayed with House Valisti - instead he had to struggle with only scraps. 'Ignacio' was the name given to him eventually, the elf-blooded child named after the brief moments of warmth provided to them in between training sessions. As he had never known better, Ignacio chose to endure his situation with all his strength, focusing on surpassing his peers entirely. His first kill was also in Velabanchel.Eventually, when they were being prepared to join the ranks of other House-less Crows, he chose a pen name - Buitre.  9:30 Dragon - 9:52 Dragon  Ignacio was not assigned to a House but served all Houses equally writing contracts and working with Crow Handlers to ensure things went smoothly. In order to ensure he could write contracts for any situation, he was taught several different languages. He can speak any common Thedas languages as a result as well as write in them fluently. He worked with various Houses to not only prepare contracts but to also secure payment should the client fail to uphold their bargain. A majority of Ignacio's kills have been clients that have refused to pay, the Writer tracking them down to ensure nobody would slip away.Due to the nature of his work, he lives a double life. Ignacio is a funnier, down-to-earth man who loves nothing more than to sit in the corner of taverns and sip on wine. He's fond of music and dancing, but gets tipsy quite easily. In contrast, Buitre never shows any emotion and is only focused on the task given to him. Those who know Ignacio are not allowed to know Buitre to protect his life. Any writer whose identity is revealed must forfeit heir life immediately. As of Veilguard, he is currently working on the frontlines with the rest of the Crows in Treviso under his normal name. He has not written a contract in quite some time.

Crow's Writer       Main. Ignacio is a Crow currently working in Treviso to fight against the Antaam. He is skilled in daggers & swords and operates at close range. He has also written contracts for Lucanis Dellamorte and is the famed "contract negotiator" the man has spoken highly of before. Due to the secrecy of Writers, he meets the Veilguard under the pen name 'Buitre'. Only the Talons, and subsequently Lucanis, are aware of his identity as Ignacio.• He is asked to offer his services to the Veilguard due to his exceptional linguistic skills and negotiation abilities. Though he does not fight on their behalf, he does work on securing agreements between factions for the Veilguard. He wears his mask at all times.

Meta - Writers

• Contracts writers are responsible for negotiating on behalf of the Crows as well as establishing individual contracts for recruits / purchased slaves. Due to their involvement in the subsequent forced recruitment in many Crows, they're not popular and thus must keep their identities secret. This protects their lives should one they conscripted retaliate in a fit of revenge.• Writers operate under pen names when working on contracts.• They are also responsible for collecting payment on behalf of the Crows should their clients try to bail. They are allowed to use whatever means necessary either to collect payment or enact a certain 'death' clause depending on the situation.• Writers are considered House-less. They work for ALL Crows not just specific Houses. However, the individuals behind the masks may belong to Houses. Most of the time they don't however as its harder to keep a secret identity.• Talons are privy to the identities of all current Writers.

Grace's Beginning  Grace is a dryad born of the flower Andraste’s Grace, a small white & reddish blossom that is fairly rare to find in the wild. She was originally a Spirit of Joy that was attracted to a small garden maintained by an Orlesian family in the countryside. The youngest child was named Emilie and she cared deeply for the small little flower - it was her first flower. Every day Emilie would visit the little garden to care for the little flower while the Spirit of Joy watched from the other side of the veil. Even as she grew older, the little girl would continue to visit and expand her garden. Yet that one little blossom remained even as the years passed, various other flowers crowding the little garden - the Spirit admired it deeply. As Emilie grew she continued to care for her garden, eventually bringing more family and lovers to the little spot. The memories they made were special, something tangible that the spirit enjoyed. Joy continued to watch as the years passed and Emilie grew older...until one day she simply didn’t return. Joy watched as the garden began to fade away, the small blossom strong but it’s life waning over time. Joy watched as winter settled in and its petals began to droop, the cold nipping at the plant’s roots and sapping the life away. In an effort to save the forgotten blossom, Joy crossed over the veil, wrapping her incorporeal body around the little flower in an attempt to keep it warm. She possessed the little flower, vowing to keep it alive until the day Emilie returned. Joy closed her eyes and fell into a deep slumber, various roots growing around the spirit and the flower as snow continued to fall.Eventually, several months passed and spring finally crept into the area, melting the snow with the sun’s warmth and eventually freeing the new Dryad from her slumber. She was confused at first but ecstatic to find the little Andraste’s Grace still remained alive, thriving in a small enclave carved into her chest. Joy carefully scooped up the little flower, holding it up to the sunlight to let it bask in the warmth, feeling the flower’s strength returning after months of winter. She decided to continue to care for the little blossom in Emilie’s absence, stowing it away in her chest to protect it. Eventually she even chose a name - Grace, after the little blossom that now held her heart and life in its little petals.  Dryad Information  Dryad’s are the counterpart to Slyvan - demons that possess trees and warp them into monstrous creatures. In contrast, Dryad’s are created from spirits that possess flowers and often take on the attributes of the flowers they possess. Not all Dryads are safe because of this - if they were to possess a poisonous flower they would be quite dangerous to be around. They possess varying levels of plant magic depending on the strength of the spirit and can grow their possessed flower all over their body as they please. Dryad’s “hearts” are the flowers they possess, usually hidden deep within the roots that compose the sturdier part of their body.● Dryad’s are weak to cold and fire. Cold causes them to go into a slumber - a hibernation state that renders them motionless but doesn’t kill them. Fire can burn away at their roots and vines and can kill them quite easily.● They can’t swim - but they can grow plants in the water to travel. They may also create little lily pads at their feet to run across. Dryad’s cannot have contact with ocean water due to the high salt concentrate - it will dehydrate them too fast.● Dryads normally consume berries but can also consume anything with sugar specifically. They have the same care conditions as whatever flower they possess. ( Dryads that possess moon lilies, for example, cannot stay in the sun and are exclusively active at night).● They don’t speak to plants - plants don’t speak - but they are very in tune with their needs and have a deeper connection with them than they did as a spirit.

DRAGON AGE        Canon. Grace was formerly a Spirit of Joy that possessed an Andraste's grace blossom after it was abandoned by it's previous caretaker. She doesn't have any specific goals beyond protecting the little blossom from winter by traveling constantly to escape the cold. Grace possess strong plant magic and is very in tune with nature. Though Slyvans are the counterpart to her, she avoids them at all costs - she is sensitive to negative emotions and the presense of demons ( and darkspawn for that matter) upset her greatly. She has had little interaction with most mortals due to hiding away but has sparked rumors and tales of vines helping guide lost travelers back to the path.

  Inquisition - Trespasser
Rasaan was a Tamassran of the Qun and the Ariquin’s eventual successor. Her current title means “chosen heir” - prior to this she was simply known as Tamassran. She was still referred to as Tamassran when not directly serving beside the Ariqun. Her duties as a Tamassran were as follows :
Control the Qunari selective breeding program by deciding who mates, and if so - with whom. This refers to the Qunari of all races, including humans and elves. At that, Tamassrans don't cross-breed races with other races.Tamassrans breed people for the purpose of making sure that the children will inherit genetic traits suited for certain jobs.● Give names to newborn children. These "names" are strings of genealogical information that the Tamassrans use to keep track of recessive and dominant traits the individual may be carrying. The Qunari themselves use their job titles rather than their "names" to call one another.● Raise all the children and give them their general education.● When the Qunari children reach the age of 12, evaluate them and officially assign their roles.● Look after those Qunari who are not mentally able, or are too physically impaired to function without a lot of help.● Provide psychological counseling and rehabilitation to those overwhelmed by stress and mental fatigue. This includes granting sexual relief to Qunari in need.● Use the substance called qamek to "free those beyond redemption," i.e. to turn dissenters who have persistently resisted re-education into all-but mindless creatures ("viddath-bas"), who can only perform hard labor and require looking after in the same manner as the disabled. Her duties changed slightly following her ascension to Rasaan as she was assigned to follow the Arishok specifically to advise him on all manners of the Qun. She has been Rasaan since before the Kirkwall incident, as while the Arishok was stranded she was unable to perform her duties properly. After he was killed and ‘Sten’ was named Arishok, she was assigned to him and once again resumed her duties.  Trespasser - Veilguard  Following the events of Inquisition and Trespasser, Rasaan breaks from the Qun and usurps control over the Antaam. She did not believe the Dragon’s Breath plan was bad - it failed because it did not go far enough. Rallying a majority of the Antaam, Rasaan takes control and leads them on an invasion of the South, attempting to either conqueror or destroy rather than attempt to reeducate them. The Bas did not merit education anymore after the events of the Breach and Fen’Harel’s influence. While the Dragon’s Breath plan was unsanctioned it was popular - many of the Antaam and Ben-Hassrath believed that they should have gone further. Those who had fought blood mages in Tevinter especially preferred quick action and were not confident in their leader's ability to handle the situation. So, they broke away under Rasaan’s guidance.Their invasion first began on Tevinter where they dominated the city of Ventus. Those in armor were killed, mages were subjected to the qamek, and women & children were simply returned to their homes. Men were sent to work in camps while the Antaam continued to work their way through Tevinter. Without the guidance of the other branches, while their campaign was disorganized, it was also brutal. They no longer held themselves back in regards to qamek usage and those they spared - many died in their path. Rasaan led them through all the way to Vyrantium, where they have been at a stalemate ever since.Due to this, several branches of the Antaam broke off to conquer weaker lands such as Rivain and Antiva. Rasaan is not in control of the Antaam invading Rivain or Treviso as a result - they are guided by their own individual warlords instead.
RASAAN        Canon. Rasaan is the successor to the Ariqun and currently serves by the Arishok's side. She is the Arishok's advisor on ways of the Qun to ensure that he does not stray from the Qun. She holds no fondness for the Bas but remains in accordance Qun ways. When she is with the Arishok, she is in charge of administering the qamek to their foes as well as assisting him in battle. She is still referred to as Tamassran by most however.● Timeline flexible. she has been rasaan since before the kirkwall events. canonly she is trapped elsewhere since the arishok is trapped in kirkwall, but can be moved to kirkwall for plotting purposes.● This timeline ends prior to Veilguard as she is no longer obeying the Qun Salasari.
Arbiter of the Antaam       Canon. Rasaan breaks away from the Qun following the failure of the Dragon's Breath plan and the Salasari's refusal to push further into the South. She no longer believes the Bas are worthy of re-education under the Qun and that they must be conquered or eliminated. She leads the Antaam and sects of the Ben-Hassrath down South towards Tevinter to begin their war campaign.● She does believe herself to be following the Qun practices and does not consider herself to be Tal-Vashoth. It is her belief that the Qun & Salasari are the ones not abiding by their own code by dealing with the South.● Rasaan's Antaam are the ones in Tevinter specifically - those in Antiva & Rivain are under their own separate Warlords who grew weary of the stalemate in Vyrantium.● She still goes by Rasaan as she considers herself to still be the Ariqun's successor.

Backstory   Bethany is the fraternal twin sibling to Carver Hawke, the younger duo of the Hawke family. Before her magic manifested, she was a vibrant little girl who enjoyed playing with the other kids in their small village in Ferelden. She was none the wiser to her father’s status as an apostate nor the latent abilities within her that would eventually manifest. Her favorite person in the world was Carver , her twin, though she also enjoyed playfully teasing him as well. Hawke, their older sibling, was her second favorite but it was close between them. Bethany loved her family entirely and enjoyed her life up until her magic manifested.
At the age of nine, Bethany’s magic manifested when the local bully was heckling them. It was while she and Carver were out in a field together playing, their older sibling Hawke elsewhere for the moment. This little moment gave the bully a chance to come bother them while Hawke was away. In a fit of anger, Bethany shouted at the bully, unintentionally awakening her magic and using it to throw the bully across the field. Despite her young age, her magic was exceptionally strong, hurling the boy so far he broke an arm. She and Carver ran away out of shock, though Bethany would soon develop a temporary but strong fear of her own magic.
In order to avoid the Circle being alerted and Templars sent to retrieve Malcom and Bethany, the Hawke family relocated down South towards Lothering. Bethany felt horribly guilty over the incident - even for hurting the bully despite him being a jerk. She began to withdraw slightly from everyone, becoming quieter and less active and just a little more clingy to her siblings. Given her outburst had come from anger, Bethany sought to diminish her emotions considerably, trying to remain calm and serene at all times. She was reluctant to train her magic even with Malcom’s encouragement.Malcolm’s insistence on training was not to cultivate her power but to allow her to safely use it and conceal it as needed. He didn’t want his children to become targets and was truthfully dismayed when he discovered Bethany’s magic. However, he sought to help her control her magic in order to give her the most normal life he could. As a result, he spent most of his time training Bethany and wasn’t very involved with Carver as much. Bethany, though coaxed into accepting her power and properly training it, continued to remain reserved and withdrawn. Even with Carver, who she feared hurting should her powers lash out again. Though she does become at least comfortable with her magic and learns to temper it, she still remains anxious and fearful over what she could mistakenly do.During the Fifth blight, her family is forced to flee Lothering as the darkspawn completely overrun it. Her twin brother, Carver, is killed by an ogre during the attack but the rest manage to escape towards Kirkwall. However, the gates are closed and they are initially denied entry. After a little negotiation, she and Hawke work temporarily for a year in servitude to gain access to the city and join their Uncle Gamlen on the other side.  Relationship with Magic  Bethany's relationship with her own magic is...complicated. Her first experience of it was in a moment of anger and resulted in the injury of another kid. Not only that, but it forced her family to move to protect her. Bethany has always been keenly aware of everything her family has given up to keep her safe from the circle. Through Malcom's guidance she does grow more comfortable with her abilities and confident in her control but it doesn't truly rid her of the anxiety and resentment she feels. However, she does remain somewhat hopeful for the future awaiting them, often looking towards the bright side as much as she can. Until she is inevitably disappointed yet again.
Kirkwall - Act I - III        Canon.  Bethany and her family escape Lothering just before it's overrun during the Fifth Blight in Ferelden. They manage to access safe passage towards Kirkwall but are initially left stranded at the gate. Through a series of negotiations, they're able to gain access to the city a year later and begin attempting to rebuild their life in Kirkwall. Unfortunately, not only has Gamlen gambled away the Amell fortune, but Templars are prevalent in the city. Bethany is forced to hide away her abilities, but it's only a matter of time before something happens...

Inquisition       Canon. Following the events of Kirkwall, Bethany is either a part of the Orlesian sect of the Grey Wardens or an Apostate living in the Free Marches. WIP

Backstory   Alaric is the only son of the Dämmerfrost family, a minor wealthy family from Nevarra. His father is Wilhelm, a renowned scholar and Mortalitasi with strong political connections. Alaric’s mother was a former Rivaini seer who moved to Nevarra for an educational exchange. Their union was one built of love, but controversial due to the expectations of Wilhelm’s parents. Still, he defied them, and their courtship persisted to the point of marriage. She would eventually give birth to Alaric but passed due to complications. These complications would eventually affect Alaric himself, leaving him with a fragile and weakened body. His home is in Northern Nevarra along the border with Tevinter, where the nights are cold and the winters long. It is a place where the fade is particularly thin and there is an abundance of spirits at all times. Unlike in many places, they don’t occupy the dead on their own often - while they are resistant to the cold, it still slows their movements and restricts their functions. It won’t kill them but it's often more difficult for smaller spirits. Spirits that do possess on their own accord are often a stronger and rarer type, making hauntings much more dangerous in this region.Alaric spent his childhood mostly indoors before his magic awakened, often reading books by himself near the fireplace. Many wisps and spirits visited his home, often lingering in rooms and occasionally interacting with the few living there. One particularly adventurous spirit approached Alaric one day, invited closer by the boy, only to suddenly take his form. Though it surprised Alaric, he simply smiled and once again invited the spirit to join him reading.Throughout his childhood this same spirit would continuously stay by his side, mirroring his appearance at all times. Eventually Alaric would refer to him as his brother rather than a spirit, a small connection his father encouraged to give his son a friend. The duo were attached at the hip - you would rarely find Alaric without his twin. However, Wilhelm did not want others to see the two side by side, so his twin could not be seen publicly with him.As time passed and Alaric eventually grew stronger, he would develop an interest in spirits and the fade. Witnessing his twin’s ability to change form continuously was intriguing to the boy, especially given the illness that plagued his body. He wanted to know more about the fade and devoted his studies to it. Alaric would eventually request to study away from home and join the Mourn Watch, something his father wasn’t entirely comfortable with but eventually relented to. His spirit twin would also tag along with him to the Necropolis where their little charade would begin.Alaric’s days studying were shared by the spirit - his twin would take his place when his illness would flare up too much. It was a bit of a struggle at first as the spirit was not that good at mimicking Alaric entirely. The boy would study and do research in an attempt to strengthen their bond, eventually leading him to developing the sigils that cover both of their bodies. It would bind their dreams together - and thus the two of them together - but had one side effect : it would bind his twin to the waking world. Surprisingly, his twin agreed to it easily, and thus the two were bonded. Alaric would go on to explain the sigils as a way to keep himself cool when his illness flared up, as the marking allowed him to guide his cold magic easier through his body. It was a technical truth. As the time of Veilguard approached, Alaric’s illness would begin to take a toll on his body. He grew increasingly weaker and sicker, unable to stand for long periods of time and forced to use braces on his body for support. His condition began to degrade fast up until he took a trip back home, only for him to mysteriously return was an unusual amount of vigor. Whatever illness had plagued him seemingly vanished, resulting in whispers of foul play and blood magic that trailed in his wake. Yet, there were no signs of either.
VEILGUARD        Main. He’s the son of a famed Mortalitasi scholar who was known to have been afflicted by an illness since his birth. It didn’t affect him in his youth beyond a few days of weakness but has since progressed considerably. It was assumed he had passed when he eventually stopped appearing in public…until one day he was spotted again resuming his duties with an unusual amount of vigor.Companion Info

INQUISITION       Side. Alaric is the son of a famed Mortalitasi scholar and a newly instated member of the Mourn Watch. His travels are few, but occasionally he is called upon to deal with hauntings and spirits. He has a fascination with the fade and spirits who inhabit it, devoting much of his studies to studying it. The breach is an unusual phenomenon he had decided to study in order to further advance his studies - and assist the Inquisition of course.

DESIGN & APPEARANCE● For Dragon Age, he is a human not an elf. Ignore his ears as they are not relevant to this verse and should be presumed to be human.● His outfit is the same barring the colorful coat - he wears that on special occasions and very rarely. It's an heirloom from his mother that was brought to Nevarra from Rivain. It intentionally does not reflect his Nevarran roots - as he is Rivaina & Nevarran not just one or the other. He is proud of his heritage, but dresses according to the climate.● For most appearances, he is wearing another layer of full body robes that cover his clothing entirely. It helps combat the cold and also keeps his underlayers clean. What he is depicted wearing is underneath said robes.● The markings on his body are the sigils that he shares with his twin. They offer no combative benefit and are solely used to bind the two of them together. The only other benefit is Alaric being able to channel his magic through his markings to keep him cool when his sickness flares up.● A lot of them braces you see on his body are to support his weak and frail body. He is not well toned and is a bit on the skinner side.● Despite being a mage, his main weapon is a a falcata that he can channel his magic through. He is also capable of doing so without a magical focus, but it is dangerous to his health. His markings give him more fine-tuned control over his magic, but also pose a risk if he were to overdo it.● The design itself is not by me, but it is owned by me. It is not ai nor is it from any source material so please don't borrow him or steal. The watermark on top is intentional - I own the non-watermarked version of the image. If you would like the artist I am more than happy to supply it. I own many character designs from them <3

Backstory   Born in Maine, Jupiter was a foster child who mostly kept to herself. She was born with the features of a bird but lacked the ability to fly - a “flaw” that ultimately led to her surrender to the foster system. As the youngest of three, she was the only one unable to take flight due to her bone structure resembling a human more than a bird’s. So, she spent her childhood grounded permanently, dragging along heavy wings that seemed to serve little to no purpose. It was a frustrating existence to say the least.
When she was ten years old trudging through the snow to return home from school, she found herself approached by a being of pure light. It turned out to be the visage of a star from beyond the cosmos, longing for a connection with others beyond the confines of the expanse of space. In order to accomplish this, it offered its heart to the girl in exchange for a place within hers - a way to experience humanity for what it was. The star did not expect to freely occupy her body though - it offered her access to it’s power as a payment. Jupiter accepted almost immediately, allowing the star’s power and heart to merge with hers.
This power not only allowed Jupiter to take flight but it also gave her access to a power in the form of “stardust”. She naturally sheds stardust from her feathers which can disorient others who inhale it. It can also manipulate light to some degree but only to cause distractions rather than anything devastating. All of which she had no control over when they first merged due to her inexperience. It took several years before Jupiter had decent control over her newfound powers and ability to fly. What the star did not realize is the way in which Jupiter’s heart had deteriorated over the years. Years in the foster system along with the knowledge of why she had been left behind had whittled away at whatever empathy and kindness Jupiter felt for the world around her. The star saw their union as a way to experience a life beyond what it had. Jupiter saw it as access to power to pull herself up in the world. It’s why, when they made their contract, Jupiter made specific choices in wording to ensure she had as much leeway as possible.Jupiter chose to use her newfound abilities to amass a small following for herself, engaging in illicit activities such as drugs, theft, blackmail, and specifically curated violence. As long as she did not use her new powers to harm another, she was still honoring their contract. Jupiter was to show the star what she believed to be the best of humanity - and Jupiter believed in humanity’s capability for harm rather than good. Jupiter believed in this concept deeply - so to the star, it was correct.Several years later, while Jupiter was well into adulthood, she broke her contract. She used her powers to knowingly kill a person, albeit a little unintentionally, resulting in her losing access. It caused her to plummet back to the ground where she was arrested and thrown into prison for some time. For a while, her connection to the star seemed to have faded entirely, and Jupiter was left alone again.Until she was offered a chance to “redeem” herself through the phoenix program and her powers mysteriously returned, though the star’s voice did not.

Powers & Abilities

Bird: Jupiter's main and natural power is her bird-like traits. She is capable of mimicking some bird speech and communicating with them but cannot control them. In normal cases, she should be able to fly like a bird as well but is unable to due so due to her more human-like bone structure. She also requires more oxygen than most and is more susceptible to airborne poisons as a result. She is capable of chirping and has a few instincts such as preening, but in every other way is more human.Cosmic: Jupiter's cosmic abilities are a little more complex and are entirely reliant on her remaining in compliance with her contract with the star. If/when she breaks this contract, she loses access to these powers entirely. She is stronger at night than day.Stardust - As a result of her deal with the Star, Jupiter can leave behind stardust in her wake. She can turn it off at will, but when she flies it is always active. This stardust can cause disorientation & drowsiness in others. Due to the nature of the dust, it can also affect light in small degrees. Jupiter is immune to it's effects and it is also what allows her to fly. Stardust can be bottled up for future use as well and mixed with other substances, though the effects vary greatly.Nightvision - She is capable of seeing just as clearly at night as she is in the day. This is not the same as enhanced vision as she can only just see clearly at night. She has average eyesight in the day.
